Back Story
The Missing Heir
Living in the medieval times
life can be hard. Depending on your station your life could be very hard or
very easy. Growing up you had very loving parents. You father was a local
fisherman while your mother tended to the family and sold the odds and ends your
father caught.
You may not have been rich or
well off but your parents gave you the best life they could with what they had.
You had begged your father to let you go
fishing with him and at times he would say yes. Tragedy would strike.
The winter was very hard that year and your
father resorted to breaking the ice and trying to catch fish so your family
would not starve. Both you and your mother pleaded with him not to go. It
looked like a snow storm was going to move in. He ignored your pleas promising
to be home by curfew.
The storm came with a
vengeance. Curfew came and went. Your father was nowhere to be found. Knowing
the punishment for breaking curfew you left your home in search of a guard
leaving your mother who was in a state of worry. Unfortunately, you could not
find a guard willing to help you and of course you were told you needed to
volunteer an extra day on top of your daily tasks at home. On the way home, you
searched for him with no luck. Sleep would not come easy that night for your mother
and yourself.
You would be woken by the
screams of your mother. Rushing to the front room you find a guard from the
morning shift trying to console her with no luck. He informs you that your
father was found having gotten lost in the snow storm that hit. He was found by
the guards who took over this morning. He had tried to take shelter with no
luck and froze to death.
The guard expressed his
condolences leaving you to tend to your mother promising to find out why the
night guards refused to search for him and told you that you did not need to
work an extra day of volunteering unless you wanted to.
Less than a week after your
father passed away your mother died of a broken heart leaving you alone in the
world. Thankfully your mother had taught you how to care for yourself in the
event you were left an orphan. It would be spring before your parents were
buried in the local cemetery.
Being a teenager life became
even more difficult trying to keep up with your studies and your duties not
only around the house but your duties to the village.
A year after your parents died
both the Lord and Lady that oversaw the village died suddenly leaving your
village without a leader. It would prove to be a hard two years as people tried
to take the role of leader but failing the village. People stopped coming to
spend their hard-earned money and the community garden had been destroyed by a
hard winter.
Now a mystery plagued the
village. The will had finally been found and turns out that the Lord and Lady
had a child before they were married. In fear of what their families would say
they found a family willing to take the baby in and raise it as their own. This
was difficult for both parents but knew it was best. This unknown baby was
named the heir of the Castle and the village. One small problem arose, they had
no idea who the adopted parents were so they had no idea where the child who
now is a young adult is.
If your village did not have
enough problems the Author who provided books for all to read has either
disappeared or died around the same time as the passing of the Lord and Lady.
Small talk and gossip spread like wild fire through the village that you were
the heir. You sure did look like you had a good mix of the Lord and lady in
you.
Scholar’s
continued to search for any scrolls that gave the name of the child and who the
child was raised by. Finally, the scrolls had been found and it named you as
the heir and your parents as the adopted parents. The entire village was in
shock including you. Now you must bring the village back to its golden years
and bring back people to trade and buy with the villagers.
As for the Author that mystery
must wait for another day. You have a village to save. Only time will tell if
you can handle such a task.
